The Betania Christian Centre had its beginnings in the early 1950’s when a great number of Italians migrated to Australia. Some of these Italian migrants who shared a common evangelical, Christian faith began to meet in each other’s homes. This fellowship grew over the years and in 1967, an Italian speaking missionary was sent from the USA by the Christian Churches of North America (CCNA) to care for this group. The CCNA continued to financially support the minister until the church’s congregation was able to support a full-time minister. During the 1980’s, the church introduced bilingual services to cater for second generation Italians and other English speaking persons. Currently the members of Betania Christian Centre are a blend of many cultural/linguistic backgrounds. Services and activities are held to cater for all members of its congregation. To implement the vision of preaching the Gospel to all people throughout Australia, the Christian Churches of Australia (CCA) was formed which was linked to the CCNA. The Betania Christian Centre is the Head Office of the CCA. Since its inception in 1979, the CCA has experienced growth, both in terms of the number of churches being established throughout Australia, and also in the number of people being reached with the message of the Gospel. While the main vision of the church is to reach people in Adelaide and Australia with the message of the Gospel, the desire is also to reach communities throughout the world with the message of the Gospel.
